Summit Lake Racers can only provide affordable fun ski racing programs through the efforts of our volunteers – the majority of whom are either parents of current or alumni athletes, or former athletes.  The quality of our ski programs, and any events/races that we host, depends on our members committing time to the club.  At the same time, parents say that the volunteer experiences and friendships are rewarding!

Volunteers manage the club through the Board, coordinate programs and events, and work at ski races – the opportunities are many:

      • Join the Board of Directors – club administration, fundraising, communication, etc.  An outline of positions and roles can be found here.
      • Be a volunteer coach – the club supports training and fees, and issues program fee credits.  Check out our Coaching page.
      • Become an Official for ski races – officials are required to hold races/events.  You can find more information here.  Many parents find a circle of friends and a rewarding career as an Official helping organize and run ski races.
      • Join the Races/Events Organizing Committee – plan and implement events.
      • Help at “away races” (we have an obligation to help when we enter racers)
      • Join the “tail gunners” as a Coach in Training assisting with team management.  Information on ACA’s Coach in Training can be found here.

Alpine Canada Alpin and the BC Alpine Ski Association are committed to safe and inclusive environment for their programs.  The Safe Sports Training from the National Coaching Certification Program is highly recommended for all  volunteers.  The on-line course is free and takes about an hour to complete.

Don’t worry about a lack of experience or skiing ability – training and mentoring are available!!!
